The Code of Scholarly Conduct: A Commitment to Discipline and Decorum

Principles of Academic Discipline
  1. A scholar badge is awarded to students who have secured 85% in all individual examinable subjects and whose annual attendance is more than 90% in the academic session. Certificates of merit /Achievement and appreciation are awarded to students who excel in Academics, Sports, Co-curricular Activities and Inter/Intra School events to motivate, encourage and recognize their efforts.
  2. Students of BCS always aspire to be honest, responsible and accountable for whatever they do.
  3. The BCS community is made up of egalitarian people that believe in upholding all the democratic rights and never discriminate between people on the basis of their nationality, regional-affiliation, skin colour, religion, caste, creed and economic status.
  • At BCS:
  1. a) Students habitually aspire to achieve the highest levels of behaviour in terms of their speech as well as their body language in keeping with the best of Indian as well as international traditions and customs.
  2. b) In keeping with the requirements of a good English medium institution, all students make it a point to converse among themselves in English at all times. Speaking the vernacular language is strongly discouraged.
  3. c) Students, without fail, accord all members of the staff and fellow students, senior and juniors - the proper respect and courtesy that they deserve at all times.
  4. d) Bullying in any form-verbal, psychological, physical or social is strongly condemned.
Principles of Academic Discipline
Discipline Policy
  1. All students must carry the school Handbook daily to school.
  2. Timeliness is a fundamental principle; habitual tardiness without valid justification will result in appropriate consequences.
  3. Students must be seated in their classrooms at least five minutes before the first bell, ensuring a smooth and orderly start to the academic day.
  4. Absolute quiet must be maintained during the silence bell and prayer bell, fostering an environment of respect and reflection.
  5. Students should never leave their classrooms or the specific areas where they are designated to be without proper permission from the teacher.
  6. Running in the corridors or up and down any of the staircases is not allowed in BCS as the same goes against the norms of safety and disciplined behaviour.
  7. Students are not allowed to bring crackers or fireworks to school.
  8. The school reserves the right to dismiss students who show unsatisfactory progress in studies or whose conduct is harmful to the other students.
  9. All academic work must be completed and submitted within the given timeframe, demonstrating diligence and academic integrity.
  10. Any act of defiance, rudeness, or insubordination toward teachers or student leaders will be addressed with strict corrective measures.
  11. Students must consider it to be their responsibility to ensure that their class rooms and the other areas of school designated for their use are always kept, neat and attractive.
    • a) Students must make sure that their bags and other belongings are kept neatly at designated places at all times.
    • b) Students must make sure that all charts and material put up for display in the classrooms are maintained properly and are never vandalized.
    • c) Students must make sure that all litter is put into the bins kept for the purpose.
  12. At BCS, defacing or destroying of school property in any way is considered to be one of the most serious offences that could attract the severest of punishments.
    • a) Scratching or spoiling or breaking of any school furniture or fittings, writing or drawing things on any of the walls all amount to damaging, defacing and destroying school property and any student found to be indulging in such reprehensible acts is duly punished.
    • b) In addition to any punishment given, any student found defacing or destroying school property would have to pay a substantial fine for the same and also bear all the expenses the school incurs in repair or replacement.
  13. Students must be habitually cautious with regard to any kind of accident,

    a) Student involved in an accident affecting any other person or any other person's property must report the circumstances to the class teacher or other appropriate authorities at the earliest.
  14. Students are aware that young people of school-going age are not authorized to possess a licence for driving motor vehicles and the school actively discourage its students from using motorized vehicles.
    • a) Hence no student is permitted to drive any motor vehicle (especially to and from school) and if any student is found doing so anywhere, especially in their School Uniform, will be taken to task for such an offence.
    • b) Only students who have a legitimate driving license and are 18 years on the school rolls are permitted, with due permission from the Principal.
    • c) They must wear helmets while driving, non-observance of this rule will be punished with suspension.
  15. Students are not allowed to use any of the telephones in school to either make or receive calls without permission from the Principal.
  16. All students are required to participate in games. No frivolous excuse is    acceptable in this context.
  17. Buying food or other items from unauthorized vendors in or around the school is strictly forbidden for health and safety reasons.
  18. Students must demonstrate unwavering respect toward teachers, staff, and peers.
  19. The use of offensive language, bullying, or any form of harassment is strictly prohibited.
  20. The school uniform must be worn with precision, ensuring neatness and adherence to school decorum. Extreme hairstyles, excessive accessories, and non-standard attire are strictly prohibited. Fingernails must be neatly trimmed, and male students must maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance.
  21. The misuse of digital devices, including cyberbullying or sharing unauthorized content, is strictly prohibited. Personal electronic devices may only be used with explicit permission from school authorities.
  22. Cardigans, books, tiffin boxes, water bottles should bear the name of the owner. The school is not responsible for stationery, books etc that get lost.
  23. No pupil is exempted from Games, Yoga and Physical Training.
  24. Student found cheating during Examination, will not be allowed to answer the rest of the Papers and Promotion will not be granted even if they have passed their previous tests.
  25. Students are not permitted to anywhere except to their respective homes, from school. The school takes no responsibility for students who do not abide by this rule.
  26. In regards to the Test/examination conducted by school, serious action will be taken if the marks/grades are tempered with.
  27. Wilful breach of any regulation pertaining to the conduct of the examination/test is punishable with expulsion from the examination.

NOTE: Anybody going against the above mentioned rules will be issued warning cards by the Principal, after ONE reminder.

Bringing Valuables to School
  1. Students should appreciate that the school is not a place to show off personal possessions and so refrain from bringing any expensive/valuable article to school.
    • a) Mobile phones, I-pods, lap-top computers, exotic electronic toys , CDs ,Pendrives ,SD Cards ,Comics, Periodicals,  Pictures or any such material which does not pertain to his/her academics and the like are not allowed in school. Any student bringing such items to school is liable to be punished and the items(s) confiscated without ever being punished and the items(s) confiscated without ever being returned. Any student found, using or in possession of such gadgets could well be expelled.
    • b) Expensive designer pens, pencils, erasers and other such items are not allowed in school. Any student bringing such items to school is liable to be punished and the items(s) confiscated without ever being returned.
    • c) Students of Class VI and above may wear wrist watches but it must be ensured that they are worn for their utility and not as a fashion statement or status symbol. Watches worn in school must generally be inexpensive and the entire responsibility of ensuring that such items are not lost or stolen lies with the students concerned. The school cannot take any responsibility for the same.
  2. The school is not responsible if unauthorized things are brought to school and then lost. All students should avail the services of the Lost and Found Department. Everyone in the school should deposit with this department, any property found in or around the school premises.
  3. Students must come fully prepared with all necessary learning materials. The use of unauthorized electronic devices within the school premises is strictly forbidden.
  4. Students are not allowed to wear any fancy and expensive jewellery and watches. Also applying henna on hands not allowed.
